My Story
I never thought I would find myself in the shoes of the patients I served every day in the NICU…
But that changed in 2023 when I became a NICU mom myself. I experienced a silent placental abruption at 34 weeks and delivered my daughter via emergency C-section just ten minutes after arriving at the hospital. That moment—and the trauma and intuition that led to it—changed everything for me.
Throughout my pregnancy, I was repeatedly dismissed, labeled as “anxious,” even though I was experiencing real and dangerous complications. The day of my daughter’s birth, I drove 70 miles home from a high-risk OB appointment, only to be overcome with a deep instinctual fear. I turned around and drove myself 70 miles back through Dallas traffic. That decision saved my baby’s life.
The system was broken, and I experienced it firsthand.
Not just as a clinician, but as a patient.
And so Casey for Babies® was born out of grief, resilience, expertise, and the urgent need for change.
I’m here to speak up—for babies, for families, and for the specialists who are often silenced or overlooked. Feeding and swallowing clinicians are vital to neonatal care, yet we are consistently undervalued, misunderstood, or even bullied in the workplace.
I’m here to challenge the status quo. My goal is to create the resources, tools, and conversations that drive real, lasting change. Feeding is a developmental process, not a discharge milestone.
Rushing infants toward volume goals and discharge timelines isn't efficiency, it's a risk. My work challenges clinicians and systems to slow down and protect what matters.

You cannot separate clinical excellence from human compassion.
The best care is both evidence-based and deeply relational. I don't believe in choosing between rigor and heart - around here we demand both.

Every voice in the NICU deserves to be heard.
Babies communicate through their cues, behaviors, and responses. Families bring invaluable perspective. Clinicians bring expertise. The best outcomes happen when we listen to them all.

The culture of the NICU shapes outcomes as much as the protocols.
Team dynamics, communication patterns, organizational pressure, and unspoken hierarchies all influence what happens to babies and families. I’m here to name that reality, and to help change it.

Casey is also the founder of TexScope®, Texas's first swallow study company operated by a Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.
In 2019, Casey identified a critical gap in access to timely, bedside swallow diagnostics—particularly in settings where transport, scheduling, and equipment limitations delayed care. She founded TexScope to solve that problem.
Today, TexScope® delivers on-site endoscopic swallow evaluations (FEES) across acute and post-acute care settings, serving as a specialized, outsourced diagnostic solution that brings real-time assessment directly to the bedside—without delays or transport.
